In case you hadn’t heard, the creator of BattleTech, Jordan Weisman, is back with a new incarnation of the beloved game so many of us discovered over the last three decades. It’s easily argued that BattleTech and the subsequent Mechwarrior franchises are the reason there is a mech genre in the first place. If you’re a fan of mechs then you’re quite likely a fan of BattleTech. The two terms are almost synonymous.
The latest installment is an updated and modern rendition of what made the game so popular to begin with. Giant armored mechs and their unique pilots leveraging customizable skills and equipment to crush each other in strategic turn based combat. Right off the bat you’ll notice the biggest change is playing on a tabletop has been exchanged for a gorgeous 3D environment. With just over $2.7M on Kickstarter for the project, developer Harebrained Schemes has the Beta well under way and is promising a memorable and worthwhile return to a gaming classic.
This past weekend Harebrained Schemes released a significant update to the Beta, including the following:
- Greatly reduced the RAM needed to play the game, allowing the game to be more accessible to players on lower-end hardware
- Bug fixes
- Animation improvement
- Improvements to tooltips and interface
Information on these updates and more can be found on the game’s Kickstarter page.
